Democratic Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker have made history as the first black politicians appointed to the Senate Judiciary Committee since the 1990s. The 200-year-old panel conducts judicial hearings and oversees the president’s nominations and appointments to the Justice Department. Harris and Booker are only the second and third black senators to sit on the high-profile committee, and this is the first time ever that two black politicians will serve simultaneously.
