Sony's new overall CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, recently made controversial comments about cross-play, and now an Xbox executive has responded. Xbox engineering lead Mike Ybarra said on Twitter that Sony "still isn't listening to gamers" about the cross-play situation.

"[Sony still] isn't listening to gamers," Ybarra said. "All games should be cross-play and progression with the right input flexibility and gamer options."

You don't have too long to wait to see how Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 fares as a multiplayer-only game. Activision and Treyarch have outlined the schedule for beta tests, and it's clear that some gamers will have better access than others. The first tests kick off August 3rd at 1PM Eastern, when PS4 pre-orders will have exclusive access until this initial run ends on August 6th at the same time. Xbox One and PC customers will have to wait until August 10th at 1PM Eastern to have their turn, although you won't need a pre-order if you're patient -- an open PC beta starts one day later. This second round of testing ends August 13th at 1PM Eastern.

After its name and logo was leaked online, 'Assassin's Creed Odyssey' was revealed by Ubisoft ahead of E3. Based on the logo and short clip, Assassin's Creed Odyssey appears that it will be taking place in ancient Greece. The clip is incredibly short and features one guy punting another guy off a cliff in the style of King Leonidas in the movie 300.

If the Spartan helmet in the logo didn't make it clear enough that this game is set in ancient Greece, surely that kick cements it. It's hard to glean anything else from the five-second video on Twitter, but we will be learning more at E3, likely at Ubisoft's press conference on June 11.

The hot console topic of 2017 for the games industry may have been about the mid-generation, but this year the focus is on Nintendo — specifically, the Nintendo Switch. According to the latest annual survey from the Game Developers Conference, now that the Switch is a proven hit, more developers are interested this year in creating games for Nintendo’s tablet.

Organizers polled nearly 4,000 developers, who say they have a growing interest in Nintendo’s newest console. Thirty-six percent of respondents, when asked which platforms they were the most interested in, said the Nintendo Switch. That puts the console above the Xbox One (28 percent), but still below the PS4 (39 percent) and PC platforms (59 percent).

Furthermore, developers say their games sell as well (23 percent) or better (28 percent) on the Switch as other consoles — a point worth noting since the install base for the Switch is smaller than that of its competitors. About 12 percent say they’re currently developing gam

Sprinkle in the most powerful console to date, the Xbox One X, and you’ll see why 2017 defied all expectations.

It was difficult, but we somehow narrowed the list down to these games, which we believe to be the best-of-the-best in 2017.

We named Intel's Optane SSD 900P as our SSD of the year, and for good reason—it arrived to a rather stagnant SSD scene with incredible performance metrics, using 3D XPoint technology to race past the previous champ, Samsung's 960 Pro. In addition to speed, the Optane SSD 900P is about to get a lot more capacious. At present, the Optane SSD 900P is only available in 280GB and 480GB models. But according to a Product Change Notification (PDF) that was first spotted by Myce, Intel will be rolling out 960GB and 1.5TB models, the latter of which triples the capacity of what's available now. While the capacity bump is the most interesting change to the Optane SSD 900P line, it's not the only one. Intel's document also lists slightly lower voltages, and a change to the packaging, which will now include additional logos and, more importantly, the firmware version. That will be helpful in knowing if you should download and install a newer firmware out of the box, or if
