We already know that Sony Interactive Entertainment is working on another console installment, which will presumably be called the PS5. However, details around what it's cooking up, are currently scarce and mostly of the rumor mold.

However, a slew of new job listings has seemingly shed some some additional light on what the company is doing for the next-generation of consoles.

As you may know, throughout the PS4's lifetime -- and even more so with the PS3 -- Sony has been swamped with criticism over PSN. It goes down often. It randomly slows down and even stops working. And it's missing some highly-requested features.

But it looks like Sony is gearing up to attempt to remedy most, if not all, of this with the PS5. A few months ago, a rumor made the rounds that PS5 would make substantial upgrades in the PSN department. And a new job listing only further reinforces this claim.

Last week, Sony posted a job listing for a Senior Network Operations Engineer at PlayStation's Alis

on Viejo offices located in sunny California. The listing featured the following snippet:

"As a primary member of the Network Engineering team you will be responsible for the development, support and mid to long term considerations of an advanced global IP network that adheres to the highest standards to provide robust, low latency game streaming services to PlayStation Now customers around the globe. You will help contribute to an automation first operations team (DevOps) to increase our efficiencies and ability to scale rapidly as we build the next generation PlayStation backbone."

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is officially free-to-play on PC and Mac, and a new, smaller scale battle royale mode has been added.

Battlefield 5’s campaign is split up into three "War Stories" set in North Africa, France and Norway. Unlike Battlefield 1’s six varied stories, these vignettes feel like all the World War II games that came before. Here’s our review of the single-player campaign for Battlefield 5, which publicly launches Nov. 20 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

Users report a text message containing weird characters is enough to wreak havoc on the PS4. Though numerous users have said they’ve been hit, the attack isn’t officially confirmed and Sony hasn’t given any kind of comment. To be on the safe side, users are suggesting that others change their message receipt settings so that only friends (or, more drastically, no one at all) can send them messages. As I’ve had friend-only messaging enabled for a while, I can’t tell if this threat/exploit is legitimate, or if this is the way to thwart it. Numerous users in the PS4 subreddit say they’ve been hit, though, and many describe the same effects. The message attack appears to be similar to others seen in mobile platforms, where a message containing a string of characters (or a specific one) can shut down the hardware.

Battle Royale has been available on Android for some time now, but it was not freely available for download to everyone. That's now changed, as Epic has released the game on Android without the need for an invite. The beta had previously been invite-only, but as of today you can download it to any Android device for free, without waiting. Unlike most Android games, Epic isn't offering Fortnite through the Google Play store, but instead on its official site.

Ubisoft really wasn't joking around when it called the latest Assassin's Creed game an Odyssey. It's not just in the Greek tragedy-inspired story, the vast, vast map or the sheer number of hours you're going to sink into it. It's the journey. The journey from one Greek island to another, with dolphins and whales cresting the waves alongside your boat. It's about the journey across the stunning Grecian landscape, ranging from forests bearing autumnal hues, to the majestic white marble buildings nestled comfortably in the cities, and absolutely everything in between. Including an active volcano that you can swan dive into. But more importantly, it's also about the journey to discover who exactly you are in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Just under 19 hours after it went live, Destiny 2 Forsaken's raid has been defeated.Last Wish went live at 6pm UK time on Friday 14th September, and at around 12.45pm a day later, Clan Redeem finally finished the raid. It took 18 hours and 48 minutes, to be exact. That's the longest it's taken for a Destiny raid "world first" - even longer than vanilla Vault of Glass took. Clan Redeem, playing on the PC version of the game, has now scored five world firsts in Destiny.

Sony's new overall CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, recently made controversial comments about cross-play, and now an Xbox executive has responded. Xbox engineering lead Mike Ybarra said on Twitter that Sony "still isn't listening to gamers" about the cross-play situation.

"[Sony still] isn't listening to gamers," Ybarra said. "All games should be cross-play and progression with the right input flexibility and gamer options."

You don't have too long to wait to see how Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 fares as a multiplayer-only game. Activision and Treyarch have outlined the schedule for beta tests, and it's clear that some gamers will have better access than others. The first tests kick off August 3rd at 1PM Eastern, when PS4 pre-orders will have exclusive access until this initial run ends on August 6th at the same time. Xbox One and PC customers will have to wait until August 10th at 1PM Eastern to have their turn, although you won't need a pre-order if you're patient -- an open PC beta starts one day later. This second round of testing ends August 13th at 1PM Eastern.

After its name and logo was leaked online, 'Assassin's Creed Odyssey' was revealed by Ubisoft ahead of E3. Based on the logo and short clip, Assassin's Creed Odyssey appears that it will be taking place in ancient Greece. The clip is incredibly short and features one guy punting another guy off a cliff in the style of King Leonidas in the movie 300.

If the Spartan helmet in the logo didn't make it clear enough that this game is set in ancient Greece, surely that kick cements it. It's hard to glean anything else from the five-second video on Twitter, but we will be learning more at E3, likely at Ubisoft's press conference on June 11.

Monster Hunter World is out now on PS4 and Xbox One. Here's what critics think of it.
The hot console topic of 2017 for the games industry may have been about the mid-generation, but this year the focus is on Nintendo — specifically, the Nintendo Switch. According to the latest annual survey from the Game Developers Conference, now that the Switch is a proven hit, more developers are interested this year in creating games for Nintendo’s tablet.

Organizers polled nearly 4,000 developers, who say they have a growing interest in Nintendo’s newest console. Thirty-six percent of respondents, when asked which platforms they were the most interested in, said the Nintendo Switch. That puts the console above the Xbox One (28 percent), but still below the PS4 (39 percent) and PC platforms (59 percent).

Furthermore, developers say their games sell as well (23 percent) or better (28 percent) on the Switch as other consoles — a point worth noting since the install base for the Switch is smaller than that of its competitors. About 12 percent say they’re currently developing gam

2016 brought us amazing titles and new hardware like the PlayStation 4 Pro, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation VR, but 2017, somehow, was even better. Indie titles like Cuphead proved creativity is alive and well, while titles we expected to be good, like Destiny 2, somehow still managed to exceed expectations. Sprinkle in the most powerful console to date, the Xbox One X, and you’ll see why 2017 defied all expectations.

It was difficult, but we somehow narrowed the list down to these games, which we believe to be the best-of-the-best in 2017.

We named Intel's Optane SSD 900P as our SSD of the year, and for good reason—it arrived to a rather stagnant SSD scene with incredible performance metrics, using 3D XPoint technology to race past the previous champ, Samsung's 960 Pro. In addition to speed, the Optane SSD 900P is about to get a lot more capacious. At present, the Optane SSD 900P is only available in 280GB and 480GB models. But according to a Product Change Notification (PDF) that was first spotted by Myce, Intel will be rolling out 960GB and 1.5TB models, the latter of which triples the capacity of what's available now. While the capacity bump is the most interesting change to the Optane SSD 900P line, it's not the only one. Intel's document also lists slightly lower voltages, and a change to the packaging, which will now include additional logos and, more importantly, the firmware version. That will be helpful in knowing if you should download and install a newer firmware out of the box, or if
